Lessons of Peter Pan

OK, this is a hub. It will be written from the synthesis of the first person voice and the third person voice. My nemesis will be with me along the path I am creating. Like the antagonist of Treasure Isle or that rascal of rascals Captain Hook of Peter Pan, it will be prodding me forward. Yet, it will plague me with questions of ‘self.’

Question: Is an Open Mind an Empty Mind?

About now you must do one thing, only one. Leave judgmental at the door. It is not allowed here. You can put that cloak of self evaluation back on at the exit. If you don’t you may miss some of the treasures. Next, you may feel you are reading something that plain just does not make sense. You are 100% correct. It will not make cents. It will lead to earning much, much more. STOP! Not sure what I’m talking about? Then maybe you might like to read a couple other hubs.

I Hated School, What About You?

Nemesis by Me of course.

What is a Dollar Worth by Me of course

Are You a New Hubpages Author Asking, “How do I Make Money Here?” by Me of course

Once Upon a Time, a Hubber Went for a Walk, by everyone

Yeah, I'm an arrogant, no good, son-of-a-gun. I'm marketing my work with my work. Offensive to some, yet others do know. In real estate it is termed location, location, location.

FLASH, FLASH, FLASH there is a NEW addition. Take a gander at Investing or More Treasure Hunting at Hubpages. This internet article puts into play a combination of content writing, social psychology, and principals of investing. There are free offers of discovery and some have a nominal cost, not paid to the author, which surely will reap rewards for the investor, (ROI).

Did you get it?

I sent you the ‘map.’ What is so cool is every map of the millions of maps sent out each one is unique to the individual. Yup! Yours is like no one else. It is unique and it was made magically, mystically, and with some fairy dust too! Very carefully open it up. Although made of parchment some thousands of years old it really is pretty durable.

OK, start at the beginning. Not there! That huge, giant ‘X’ is the ending. That is where the treasure lay. Now, to understand how to use this map you have to understand a financial concept. It is Return on Investment. Return is what is received back. It can be higher or lower. It is conditional to something. Investment is the known factor or what you are putting into something. There is a curve ball coming at you about now. It is intrinsic value. Want to know more check this out.

Intrinsic Value

, , , is the actual value or tangible factor ($1.00) + intangible factors (????) such as increased self esteem, new friends, business partners, additional investment potentials, etc. creating a true value. The goal is for the true value to be higher than the market value giving a return on investment or a treasure!

About now, I have to share. My investment for this article is time. And, if you have read your lessons, you know that is my nemesis. And, I have a habit of writing way too much. Like the rabbit of Alice in Wonderland “I'm late . I'm late. For a very important date. No time to say "Hello." Goodbye. I'm late , I'm late , I'm late .

Bone, Vol. 8: Treasure Hunters
Back in the early '90s, Bone became the little book that could. Written, drawn and independently published by Jeff Smith over the course of 12 years, Bone told an epic fantasy with wit and humor and not a small amount of suspense. Some thought it couldn't be done. The comics market wasn't healthy for such small ventures, and publishing and distributing a comic out of a garage --- as Smith did --- was risky at best. But it worked. In fact, it became a phenomenon.

In a nut shell – What is ROI?

ROI is about cash flow in business; even though ROI is used in many different disciplines, i.e. education, health, time management, etc., in its simplest form it is shelling out some ducats with the expectation of receiving back more than originally shelled out. Cash flow is positive in this case. Or, more than.

I have a dollar

I invest the dollar by buying bubble gum. I get 10 pieces for my dollar.

I sell the gum in my 5th grade class for 15 cents each. And, I sell them in one day.

Now, I have $1.50 in my pocket.

The formula for ROI is ROI % = 100* (Incremental benefits – incremental costs)/Incremental costs.

From the example we have:

= 100 x (1.50 – 1.00)/1.00

Or, 50%

My ROI = 50% or Now I have enough money to buy 10 more pieces and put $0.50 in my piggy bank at home.

So to this point we have an understanding of value and a realized value or profit resulting from a return on an investment.

If I got it wrong, then comment below or start a forum question on it.

Tick-Tock, Tick-Tock Goes the Clock

Now, turn any which way but loose. Look closely. At Hubpages are treasures and treasures and treasures. They are investments in you, the writer, seeking a return on investment. They are ‘Free!’ An example is to visit Cogerson’s hubs. He posts all the information on the results of cinema releases. WOW!

There you have all the information to KNOW what the public is buying – Now! Remembering the 3rd hub lesson above, looking at the 4th person recommended for hub improvement, reading just the title we discover a method. Now you have a whole corporate department – Research & Development for Free. And, there is so many, many, many possibilities or maybe the Impossible Dream is possible.

There is more to it than just writing a review. What I mean is writing a review is a method of investing. Many do it well and are our teachers. Adding to that we are investing with that review to gain a return. Our hub, creates an interest in what is advertised by our affiliates. Look with both a microscope and telescope.

Ending Thoughts

OK, this hub is getting long. I have to stop writing. My goal was not to write over 1,000 words. So, some ending thoughts are:

Even though you may only be writing for the pleasure or enjoyment factor you are investing with expectation of a return. Look into Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs for more information just to the right of this. Or, Hubpages Staff Member Maddie Rudd provides this information.

There is an age old saying – “you have to spend money to make money.” I view that as an allegory. Chop it up and you have “you get out of something what you put into it.” You do not have to run out and start using adwords to increase clicks etc. It is highly recommended, YES. But, maybe you can’t afford to make that investment, yet. Well, you do have time. You can read. You can keep notes. You can compare / contrast. And, like psychology says you learn as a child, communicate as an adult, and administrate as a parent.

KidzBusiness as "Learning Playground"! This is very much a hidden treasure!

To Get a Return You have to Invest Something

Most new hubpages authors will invest time first learning. I'm still investing this, since in a sense I am still a toddler. The next greatest investment is trial and error. Jumping into the deep end is not always recommended, but you have to get your feet wet. I took baby steps, not publishing a hub for more than 3 months. Now, I know how to tread water. So, take heed, in the sense of being aware, then enter the playground. Remember to smile and have fun, fun, fun , , , (STOP – 1200+ words, whew! But, I believe in the investment)

Thank you Cloverleaf. My goals was 50 by Nov 1. I wanted badly to get it down over this past weekend (10/23 - Sun). Whew! I did it and I now understand your feelings with the 30 hubs - 30 day challenge. I will be doing that next year. I will look to you for that encouragement.

Thumbs up, Tim. I've been missing you and your brilliance in the puzzling way you introduce the subject and take us through the maze. This hub took a lot of thought, preparation and creativity. I like your message, "To Get a Return You have to Invest Something." Blessings, Debby

Hi Debby! Thanks for stopping by. My PC was broke for awhile. Took about 4weeks of saving. Maybe as I put into place the message of this hub my returns will prevent that in the future. Yes, it is like you say, "To Get a Return You have to Invest Something." Have a happy & safe holiday season!
