My Dearest Valentine

Love Eternal
He had met his daughter just a bit back. Not knowing she existed in her wonderful essence his life had taken a new turn. While walking though the neighboring forest he pondered his vows, now old and almost forgotten. The order faded in the near distant sky like a hawk seeking distant mountain peaks. The path before him was open full of falling leaves from the birch, oaks, and maple trees. Colors adorned them hanging onto fall as winter crept in. Valentine’s Day approached and oddly he felt an attachment to it this year.
St. Valentine
As legend goes St. Valentine married Roman soldiers, whom were forbid to be married by the emperor. The penalty of death stood in the way of eternal love. Yet, St. Valentine pursued love’s virtue by secretly performing marriage rites. Eventually meeting the soldier’s demise for marriage, St. Valentine's legend grew.
A Rock
Not far ahead a rock beckoned him nearer. Striding a bit longer he soon sat overlooking a wide field feeling at home. Like cupid’s arrow a slow running stream pierced the lush green valley. A pair of rabbits with their bounding white tails flittered to and fro playing with the dancing painted red butterflies. Not far off a lazy doe gently nuzzled the taller wild oat grass.
Pulling his black worn leather bound notebook from his tattered jacket he began to thumb through it. Spying out those loves of his past, forbidden their fruits because of his vows, yet he was taught the simplest lessons of love. There were only a few and he knew their souls. intimately. Impaired by a gift given from above, a headache gnawed just a tiny bit.

Like an Angel
Breaking out a pencil no longer than his memory, he began to write, but then paused. Pondering each appearing as ministering angels in his times of need the stories of the ancient books puzzled him so.
Remembering the first he had likened her to Ruth, strong, bold, and a leader. Then there was the one he called his flight instructor. She had taught him to fly like Jonathon in a favorite book. She is his most favorite, since she ministered to his broken body, taught him of love’s real power, and began healing his disordered mind.
Another taught the mysteries of the mind. Carefully she instructed him on the many gifts bearing wonderful powers mother earth offered. Another showed the way to liberty with a map. Given direction while opening his mind, again, to the spiritual planes and the gentleness of nature, he grew closer to wholeness. The last one showed how the world had seduced him leading him from what is pure. Still struggling today, the feeling of her love lingers close by.
Crossing his leg, listening to the orchestrated song of the fluttering birds dancing with the tree branches he began to write.
My Dearest Valentine
My dearest Valentine laying so near yet not within reach,
Within my soul I feel your skin, like that of the finest silk,
Hear your rhythmic breaths blend with time eternal,
I savor your womanly scent, sweeter than the elixirs of Aphrodite.
Longing to hear your harp play a song for me today,
I hunger your incessantly deep pools softly piercing my pain,
Thirst to taste your warming smile lighting today’s darkness,
Dance with your mystical laughter leading me toward destiny,
My heart is filled by your essence, though empty awaiting mystery,
I am your student, your peer, your son, a forgotten man,
Like my mother you cared, yet you touched me like an angel from above,
Always with me, never lost in my twisted mind of turmoil.
Oh my dearest I am nearing this paths end,
I read your note while hearing a song in the light of the moon,
Thank you my dearest, now I will fly strong and sure,
The bonds of love have been loosed, though I fly high and far,
Certainty says I'll return – to you!
