Title: The Drag Racer’s Mind, the Christmas Tree, Time & Destiny - Angelle Sampey

The following poem is (was) inspired by Angelle Sampey. A drag racer in the ProStock Motorcycle class of NHRA RACING she achieved much. Not only setting records, winning races, becoming 3-Time World Champion (In a male competitive sport), but she was and still is a pioneer. A role model for many little girls, their awakening fathers, and her fans her pink hats were adorned by many of a little person seeking a heroine. Angelle fit this bill. Personally she was and is a role model for this author. Learning to understand the forces of stigma with a mental illness I was able to identify with her. She struggled within a male dominated sport and succeeded. Along with other drag racing legends – Shirley Muldowney (Top Fuel World Champion), Bunny Burkett, and today Erica Enders, Ashley Force, and many, many, many more, diversity fluttered like a butterfly flapping its wings. Change occurred, the destination of destiny became reality, and the world became a much better place to be.

Writing this poem for her I may get a duplicate content notice, but I’m gon’na try and share it with you. This will be a short hub fueled by a desire, like you, to publish something today while hungering to share with a hope of learning.

It’s time, , , thud, thump, thud, thump, destiny is near

Nitro in the air, sticky stuff on the track get’n hot under the sun,

The air is becoming still with the fusion of my vision,

Sign here, where, there, OK, what, my shoe is untied, better retie it

On the line, the tree in front of me, in the near distance is destiny,

Tick-Tock, Tick-Tock, Tick-Tock entropy seeks static, static seeks dynamic,

Potential energy swarms beneath, I feel the pendulum of time held still,

The law of attraction focuses countless hopeful eyes upon me,

Click, Click, Click the light falls faster than gravity and I’m gone now, not then,

Boom, Bam, the beginning starts again with a big bang, a new universe before me,

Thrusting, accelerating, linearly a breath ahead of chaos I steer toward destiny,

Destiny, when, there, how, Destiny looms in the past, take a breath, realization of now.

Having studied Women in Drag Racing I will be sharing more later. Following or leading social development in diversity Drag Racing is a model of our larger society. We can learn much of history, social change, and growth of a nation through sports. My favorite is Drag Racing, a passion, a life force, and fuel for my drive to be a writer sharing.

[Footnote: If anyone has knows how to share with Angelle, I would like to share with her this article. I lost touch with her after she retired and there seems to be no activity on facebook now a-days, I guess she is having to much fun with aquariums and stuff like that - go Angelle!]
